My First Experience with UberEATS

UberEATS is a new service from Uber, the ride sharing service.  It’s basically an on-demand food delivery service that’s much easier than ordering takeout.

From the website:

UberEATS delivers food from your favorite local restaurants. With the new UberEATS app, you have access to a broader selection of restaurants and food. Now you can order from the full menus of your local favorites whenever you want, or get something immediately through our Instant Delivery menu of curated meals.

I’ve had a $10 code from a friend that I’ve been meaning to use, but UberEATS does not deliver to my home.  It does, however, deliver to my workplace.

UberEATS is currently avaliable in Barcelona, Chicago, New York City, Atlanta, Austin, San Francisco, Toronto, and Washington DC.

My UberEATS review

I decided to check it out today and it seemed too good to be true.  It was quoting me food delivery times of about 40 minutes for restaurants located all the way in Washington, DC, when I work in Arlington, VA.  My local Chinese food restaurant does not delivery that quickly.

The photos looked delicious and were also not stock photos.  The items on the various menus were represented there.

I eventually settled on a yellow tail tuna sashimi salad from Buredo.  The app promised it would arrive in 45 minutes and I was suspicious.  The delivery fee was $5.99.  In between the fee, my food, and my $10 promo code, I spent about $6 to have my salad delivered to me from DC.

UberEats Review 2

My ETA was 12:54 pm (before I took this screenshot) and I kept waiting for that to change.  While it did sometimes jump to 12:55 or 56, my driver ultimately arrived at 12:53.

Before she arrived, I was given a confirmation pretty similar to ordering an Uber.  It even let me know my driver’s rating.

UberEats Review 3

And while it didn’t give me the exact path she was going to take, I could see where she was at all times.

UberEats Review 1

UberEATS stresses efficiency, so you need to meet your drive outside for a quick drop-off. I grabbed my food through the window.

While this may be seen as an inconvenience, it definitely reduces the cost to the driver.

At 12:53, I had my food.

UberEATS review

Here’s the awkward part.  I assumed the app would let me tip percentage (like you can do with UberTaxi and delivery apps like Eat24) but I was wrong.  There is no way to tip and the app insists that tipping in included.  I didn’t have cash and it felt strange to not tip on food delivery.

This may be like my transition from taxis to Uber, where I felt weird not tipping Uber drivers for a while, but for me, $5.99 seems like a low fee for delivery.  I wonder how much the drivers are getting paid (though my driver seemed very happy to deliver my food to me).

My sashimi was still cold when I received it, and I received it less than 45 minutes after I selected it on my phone.

This was a great deal, in my opinion.  We have some 3rd party Slot Gacor delivery services in this area.  They take a while, tend to charge $10, and sometimes get the order wrong.

UberEATS was fast and had a very clear ordering process for each restaurant.  So the tl/dr of this UberEATS review is: Fast, easy, cheaper than I thought, yay.

I’m sold.

If you are interested in trying UberEATS, I do have a promocode that will give us both $10.  As always, feel free to use or not use.  Either way, I appreciate you stopping by this post.

  1. You’re one of the lucky ones. I’ve ordered a number of times off UberEats and each time there are issues with delivery. Taking way too long, forgotten items, etc. Each time the order has been refunded and additional credits issued. I’ve found the platform good for a free meal, but only if you’re willing to deal with errors and delays.

Are you in the DC region, or somewhere else?

    • Ubereats delivery driver

I’ve been doing Ubereats deliveries in Tampa FL for the last 4 days and it sucks, i will start looking for a real job

Today 02/14/17 Ubereats drivers get paid like this:

      Pickup fee: $3.50
      Dropoff fee $1.30
      /mile:$1.30
      /minutes: $0.00

Min fare:Total of the pickup fee + Dropoff fee = $4.80
      Uber Service fee: 25%

The distance is being calculated based on system’s most suggested route.

SO WE DON’T GET PAID PER MINUTE, THE MILES START TO COUNT FROM THE RESTAURANT UNTIL THE CUSTOMER’S ADDRESS ,WE ALMOST NEVER GET TIPS AND ON TOP OF THAT UBER TAKES 25% OF OUR EARNINGS, 1 OUT OF 10 CUSTOMERS WILL GIVE YOU TIP, UBER DOESN’T COUNT THE MILES YOU DRIVE TO GET TO THE RESTAURANT,ON TOP OF ALL THESE WE HAVE TO PAY TAXES.

WE HAVE TO PAY FOR OUR FUEL AND OUR TIRES AND CAR MAINTENANCE.

LET’S MAKE UBER BECOME MORE MILLIONAIRE.

PLEASE IF YOU ARE TRYING TO DO UBEREATS ONLY, PLEASE DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME, GET A REAL JOB, AND NOW THIS MESSAGE IS FOR THE CUSTOMERS, IF YOU ARE GONNA GET UBEREATS DELIVERY PLEASE TIP YOUR UBEREATS DRIVER.

This is the breakdown of one of my trips today:

      Trip earnings
      Fare $8.90
      Uber fee – $2.23
      Estimated payout $6.67
      Duration 31 minutes
Distance 4.5 miles (these are miles from the restaurant to the customer’s address,it DOESN’T count the miles to get to the restaurant)

      • Our pick ups here in the DFW area were no where near as high. It’s crazy how you get pinged to drive 10/15 minutes away to pick up the food. Just to take the food next door. 5.00 dollars on gas to get there and 50 cents a mile plus to 98 cent to pick up and 98 cent to drop off. That left me in a deficit. So, I stopped doing that. Of course they say it doesn’t but it does count against you. Then, they don’t always pay toll charges either. I got fed up with Uber’s crap and got a regular job. I only worked for Ubereats for a while b/c I wanted to make some extra money – on my terms – big money they promise you. Please. It was more headaches than it was worth. It’s not even beneficial for the driver – only for Ubereats customers and Uber.

    • Dnt use uber eats in Dc I hop gave me the wrong food would not refund me

    • Uber eats is a fucking joke, multiple times I’ve ordered and they have been beyond late and multiple times they say they showed up and waited 5 min but no one came out side like I’m magically suppose to know your standing out side my apt. They give you the number to call when you get there so I’m confused as to why the fuck it’s so hard to call or even walk up to the door and knock. Hire people with common sense you fucking morons.

  2. I’ll be in DC next month, and my hotel is a great location for driving, but awful for food (I’ve looked – the best nearby are IHOP and Red Lobster lol). I might have to try UberEATS out! I know I have a Saturday night with no dinner plans as of now.

  3. Wait you can tip with Uber App now? How?!

    • Jeanne Marie Hoffman

I accidentally left that as a half-thought–I’ll fix it (sorry!) I meant like you can do with UberTaxis–set a percentage of what you’d like to tip, similar to what you can do with delivery services like Eat24.

  4. Wow, I really wanted to love this, but the very 1st time I tried to order (in Seattle) I kept getting error messages. They stated that the 2 payment methods I had previously entered awhile back (in anticipation of future orders) were “invalid” (one just needed updating, & the other was perfectly fine). I tried several different ways of editing/deleting the current cards I had on file, only to be told that I can’t delete a payment unless I have a valid card on file! This was so frustrating, to say the least, & there’s no real person to speak with or chat online to (PLEASE give me SOMETHING!)! My friend & I were starving & totally excited for Thai food, but ended up eating pizza slices from across the street instead. I found an email address on their site (not on the app), so I sent them a message explaining my experience, but have not heard back (not even an automated reply) in almost 24 hours.

    • Jeanne Marie Hoffman

I had that exact problem with the regular Uber app! I couldn’t delete or change the payment to update the expiration date. Sounds like a major software error.

      • Wow, really?? That’s too bad, because I’m disabled, & it would’ve been a great service for me. Were you able to resolve your dilemma, & if so, may I ask how?

        • Jeanne Marie Hoffman

I did it through a desktop login.

You might want to look into Postmates or Instacart. I use both of them regularly (I’m a monthly subscriber to instacart for my groceries). I need to do a write-up on Instacart.

(This is my referral link which gets you $10 off on Instacart, but feel free to not use it! https://inst.cr/t/4cewpB2S5 )

    • Man you guys are lazy. Get your butt off the coach and go buy something to eat

  5. I just placed an order with UberEats about an hour and a half ago. After being called by the delivery driver I realized there was going to be a problem, he did not speak English. I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with him on how to get into my residential high rise in Downtown Houston, I watched him on the app go further and further away. He eventually cancelled the order saying unable to deliver. I think it’s completely unacceptable that they hire delivery drivers who don’t speak English. No one has ever had difficulty delivering to me in my building in the past, there were valet and a concierge available to assist him. UberEats is the worst delivery experience I’ve had since living downtown for 8 years,

  6. I’m an asian woman who had racial slurs thrown at me by the black uber driver because I asked him why the app showed him sitting at a parking lot near ohio and santa monica for about 20 minutes. Although UBER’s phillipines customer center agreed to refund my order, which has not been refunded, they refused to let me speak to a supervisor. Spent nearly 400 with uber eats. Will be going with postmates – after all, the uber driver shouted that I should not call Uber Eats anymore.

  7. i am an ubereats delivery driver and let me just say.. we earn about 4.78 per trip of which uber takes a fee from that miniscual amount. on the daily, i get losers that LIE about their location just to save money and when you arrive and call them.. they give u a different address which has been between 10-even 24 minutes further !!! i never get tips.. i never get the customers that meet me at my car and i never make SHIT for pay. so before you guys ASSUME its OK to be CHEAP AND NOT TIP US … THINK AGAIN.we are the ONLY people that DONT GET TIPS!!! and quite regularly make LESS than minimum wage. so how do u expect us to give a fuck about YOU AND YOUR PRECIOUS FOOD AND PRECIOUS TIME and making it so wonderful an experience for YOU when the same is NEVER afforded to US the uber eats delivery driving SLAVES !!!!!????? FOR THIS VERY REASON I QUIT TODAY FOR GOOD. AND I HOPE OTHER DRIVERS WILL DO THE SAME.

    • Wonder where you were delivering, I have thought about driving for Uber (Uber eats) however something always keeps me from pulling the trigger and I’m not sure why.

I hope to hear from others who deliver for Uber as well.

      • Don’t drive in Dallas or any of the nearby cities. To many tolls and Uber gives you excuses for not paying them. I quit. You’re already not making crap and then to have to pay tolls from minimum wage? You’d make more working at Taco Bell.

    • That’s because these people are cheap and lazy. A couple bucks tip won’t kill you. You know why no one is tipping because the people who use uber eats are young dumb lazy and cheap

  8. I had a terrible experience today in Chevy Chase MD. First it accepted my order and told me I would get my food by 7:40 pm, roughly 45 min after my order. The delivery time changed to 8 pm — so I called UberEATS since the kid was getting hungry. The lady at the call center said she spoke to the restaurant and also to the driver who was just looking for parking outside the restaurant. She also gave me the driver’s number -/ he said he would be at my house in 10 min. 15 min I got a call from the Call Center saying that the restaurant BB was very busy and could they cancel my order and credit me $10? I said no, please have my order delivered since we had been waiting for over an hour. He said he would contact the restaurant to ensure my order. 15 min later I got a cancel notice. So much for a reliable service!! Never again!

    • Maybe it happened where you lived. But in the Bay area Ubereats works really well. I’m an Ubereats driver and I delivered fast for all customers.

  9. We placed a order for breakfast last night and the food never showed up. Called support and they told me that their system said the order was not scheduled to be delivered until noon – even though our screen and our order receipt said the correct morning time. They could not fix the problem and so we had to cancel our order. Also, there will be no follow-up or explanation as to what happened. So a huge “Down Vote” for us (and a house full of cranky people who are annoyed at me for not using DoorDash).

  10. I would never order anything from ubereats again, I called them to notify them that my order was over 1 hour and 16 minutes late and the support person I spoke to in India told me that she would refund my whole order amount but when I checked my statement it said that she only refunded me $10.00 on a $34.00 bill. So they’re not only bad service providers they are liers as well.

  11. Tips are definitely NOT included with Ubereats or any of the Uber services. Drivers are compensated with similar rates as the other major rideshare services such as Lyft. Lyft however does allow (and encourage) tipping. You may, if you choose, tip Uber drivers in cash…which is greatly appreciated!

  12. I am still waiting for my food as per your app it should be deliver at 22:20 hrs now time 23:55, your delivery staff not answering my call i called many time no answer
very poor customer service and cheating customer as well

  13. Had multiple issues with delivery from uber eats.
The drivers have always been good, and the restaurants that I’ve talked to have always worked through any issues.

In short Uber has always been the weak link.
Good luck, if you want to find support.
They are by far the worst company I have ever given money to.

I’m currently deleting all my bookmarks and apps now, so I don’t make that mistake again.

They just took 4 hours to fulfill an order that they claimed would take 20 min.
I tried to cancel for 3 of the 4 hours but I wasn’t able to reach anyone in all that time.

  14. It occurred to me while reading this and the comments that Uber is the ultimate expression of privilege.

“The corporation told me I don’t have to tip their below min wage contractors so I don’t”

“If they don’t like it they should quit”

You are starting to get new immigrants/non English speakers because Uber has become the choice of the economically desperate.

We make less than minimum wage. If we smile and look happy for you it’s because we desperately need a 5 star rating. Because we can be fired for going below 4.7

    • Where can I go to rate the driver, Shawnzie, who never brought my son’s chicken today, said she left it at the other house with same street number, just a different street. The guy who lives there is a friend and he said she walked up to the door, asked if his name was Xander and the guy said, no, they are right around the corner and showed her where we live. Called UberEats and driver claims she gave it to the guy, but lied. Would love to rate her. Also would love to know what magical crack-like power chicken has over some. It’s bizarre to me.

  15. I work for uber eats. You are allowed to tip us drivers. It’s just your decision on how much or how little you give. Yesterday I got 18 dollars in tips

  16. Today, I order food from Uber delivery and he never deliver it at my place. Even though website notification said that he did deliver it. I am very disappointed with Uber. I had use uber delivery sometimes time but this time he never made it. I hope I get my refund and I will never use UBER again. I just wish there is a way to contact the driver.

    • Same experience in greater Orlando area today. This is the 2nd time someone’s taken my son’s chicken dinner away from him. Once when he was about 11, again at 18. Is chicken really THAT good?

  17. We had a very negative experience with Orlando UberEats driver. My son and his friends have used Uber without any problems until today. My son even sent a text to the driver to be sure to look for North Bitter Place, not South. So, after it shows the food has been delivered and no one has come to the door, I called UberEats and the lady I spoke with said that the driver delivered it to the wrong 835# and gave it to a man who opened the door. After hanging up, I went around the corner to the ONLY other address with the # 835 – our buddy Steve. I went to the door and asked him if someone came by and he said that a lady came by with a bag of 4 Rivers BBQ food and he told her she had the wrong house and told her to go around the corner to where we live. Never happened. So I called UberEats again and asked for the driver’s name (Shawnzie) and asked where my son’s chicken ended up. I’d love to see what house she left it at. We know the majority of our neighbors and none would just take food they didn’t order. Especially if the driver is supposed to ask for the person who ordered it. If the driver lied about it, she needs to be fired. I know that sounds cold, but wte, I’ve been fired for MUCH LESS than stealing from a customer and lying to a supervisor about it. If she would have done what every single other person needing directions to our house does – CALL – there wouldn’t have been a problem. Now it’s become ChickenGate b/c oddly enough, this is the 2nd time someone has taken my son’s food (it’s always the chicken) from him without asking (he wouldn’t ever turn down an elder asking him for food, but person didn’t ask, just saw chicken, it must be like crack or something b/c he grabbed that chicken so fast and everyonee around wanted to know if there was anymore chicken (OMG, it’s just chicken!!!!) Anyhow, hopefully they refunded the money to our debit card. After spending 25 minutes on the first call (mostly on hold), then 28 minutes on the second call, they generously offered me a $5 off coupon (For just short of an HOUR of my time, not to mention the investigative work I did for them, haha). #chickengate #stopSteallingMySon’sChicken!dammit

    • Listen you sad pathetic cow, U GAVE THE WRONG ADDRESS IT SEEMS!!! ofcourse driver not going to drive around waste his time any more extra driving miles too to deliver it to u sad fat cow ok! thats what happened its ur fault!!

  18. I am a restaurant owner. UberEats wants to charge me 32% commission on the order. Delivery Dudes charges us 15%. We have our own delivery driver and only charge a $1 for delivery. Most customers call us directly. I recommend checking with a restaurant first to see if they have their own delivery service before using a third party, the restaurants are getting screwed too!

  19. Paul from uber eat.
That’s bad bad and bad. Houston tx

  20. My food said it got delivered but never received it. I tried to find the contact number to see what happened but couldn’t find anything and no phone number or email to help. I will never use this again. Worst app

  21. Ordered food through uber food was old and ice cold horrible never use these people waiter is a lot better your food is hot when it arrives thank thumbs down for uber eats

  22. 2nd time ordering with Uber eats and my food was cold, even the pizza box and containers were cold, not warm at all. They always take a long time and food is always cold. I will never use them again.

  23. used a promo code .. they accepted it but after bill was nothing taken off. They said ” sorry you have to put code in first” Surprisingly I had .. when it didn’t take off money I thought wrong browser so I swapped and redid browser .. When I tried dif codes it said” you already have a code applied” After I informed them they said the code wasn’t available in my area.. Code for we are a rip off company that doesn’t honor codes if we can trick you into using one. If wasn’t allowed why the #$%@$% did you accept it ??? Uber and Uber eats are now deleted from anything I will ever use .. and I am passing the word around to everyone I know (and everyone they know) thank you for showing your true colors Before other people made the same mistake!!!
