Nowadays, it seems like almost every airline is trying to nickel and dime you.  But there are still deals and tricks to be had.

Gary from View from the Wing details how you can temporarily get free checked bags on American Airlines–just in time for the holidays.

Ed from Pizza in Motion got a similar offer to what I received–American wanted to know if we were interested in purchasing status.

He did a round-up of all the different offers people received and what it would cost them.  What’s interesting is, people with similar levels of EQMs (elite qualifying miles–what you need in order to get status) got different offers.
