Whenever I take an Uber, I try to chat with the driver about Uber, how they like their job, and anything new they like about it.
Lately, I’ve been hearing about Uber’s native navigation.
Uber’s native navigation has been notorious for being difficult to use. It gets people from point A to point B, but doesn’t make the best traffic decisions and doesn’t always know about the latest construction problems.
I’ve often had drivers running a cell phone with the Uber app, and another one with Google Maps or Waze.
But I’ve been hearing from drivers that this has changed. Uber has upgraded the Uber app, making it more intuitive. It makes better navigation decisions and realizes that the “longer” route is sometimes the better route. Drivers complained to me that the Uber app merely took them as directly from point A to point B.
One of my recent drivers commented that he liked using Waze because it got them through traffic, but on a day-to-day basis, it took him on some strange routes. He realized he was concerning passengers by taking them through neighborhoods. He said he likes the update to the Uber app because it takes him on the fastest routes without cutting through “random, strange side roads”.
I’m glad Uber has made improvements to its own app. I’ve had issues with it thinking my street was one block sooner than it was.
Have you noticed an improved experience due to this app?
I’m a driver in Northeast Florida and use Waze, it is good 95% of the time and haven’t found a reason to move away from it.
