Getting Starwood Gold Status with One Stay

In an earlier post, I lamented my loss of Starwood Gold status.  Gary of View from the Wing posted a potential solution for me, “an offer for free Starwood Gold status after one stay in the Asia Pacific region paid for with a World Mastercard.”

Keri and I were just discussing a possible trip this morning.  I’ve got some US Airways miles burning a hole in my pocket!

Gary’s post goes into other ways of getting Gold, but note, if you have AAA (or other qualifying memberships), you can qualify for preferred plus.

Preferred Plus gets you late check out and a less chance of having one of the worst rooms in the house.

Compare this to Gold, which will also get you a welcome amenity (extra points, free internet, or a welcome drink), and 3 points per dollar.

I probably will do fine demoted to plus.  But as inspiration to get our butts moving on this trip, I’ll insist I need gold!  I’ve got miles burning a hole in my pocket, and I’ve been miserly up until now.

Keri, let’s go here!:

  1. Ooooh, does this mean you’re offering to pay for our hotels on that Asia trip?

  2. Mayhaps one night at a starwood property? ;D

  3. But that’s the Peninsula on the left, and the Holiday Inn Golden Mile on the right- no Starwood Gold from either of those!

You want the Sheraton behind you…
