Air New Zealand Flight Lands Safely After a Flat Tire

One of the interesting things about being in another country on the other side of the world is seeing the news unfold while it’s happening.  Normally, this is a story that would pop up on my reader in the morning, but I heard about it as it was happening since I am currently in Auckland.

An Air New Zealand flight from Honolulu to Auckland had a flat tire in flight.  Emergency vehicles gathered in preparation for the landing, but luckily, they were not needed.

From the New Zealand Herald:

An Air New Zealand flight has landed safely after earlier sparking a scare at Auckland International Airport.

Emergency services rushed to the airport shortly before 4.30pm after it was reported one of tyres on flight Air NZ 9 was flat.

A Fire Service spokesman earlier said eight fire crews had assembled at the airport awaiting the plane’s arrival.

The plane landed “without incident”.

Flight Aware shows a deviation in the plane’s course.

Flight Aware also shows that the plane landed 53 minutes late, but it took off 39 minutes late.
