Brussels Air is flying an all-female crew on Saturday in recognition of International Women’s Day.
The crew will be aboard the 10:30am Brussels-JFK route.
The carrier says the initiative was spearheaded by its female pilots and flight attendants, “who have been playing an important at the airline role since many years.”
Brussels Airlines credits a pilot it identifies only as “Captain Lauretta” for taking a leading role in pushing for the special International Women’s Day flight. She has been with the carrier since 1998.
“We are really looking forward to this flight”, Captain Lauretta says in a statement announcing the flight. “A job in aviation is becoming more and more favorable to women and, with a little organization and support from your family and with an employer like Brussels Airlines, it is possible to combine it with your family life. I’ve noticed a positive evolution in recent years and more and more women choose for a career as pilot.”
I’m always excited when I hear a female pilot making the announcements on the plane. Â Not everyone is as excited.
