Wednesday: The DC/NoVA Frequent Traveler Meet-Up!

The day is quickly arriving for our meet up event on February 17th in Old Town Alexandria (DC metro area).

Myself and Ed from Pizza in Motion are the hosts, and we welcome local travelers and not-so-locals-who-feel-like-popping-into-the-area-alike.

The hashtag for the event is #GeekyPizza

I tried googling for photos of nerdy looking pizza.  When I googled for “pizza wearing bowtie,” all I got were bowties made out of pizza.

So I drew this for you.  You’re welcome.

It starts at 6pm on February 17th at:

John Strongbow’s Tavern at 710 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314

2016-01-24 09.13.43

Stop by and meet fellow travelers, catch up with old friends, and shoot the breeze over some fantastic drinks.

This tavern specializes in European wines and beer from historic vineyards and breweries.  The wine selection only has a mild markup, so I’ve been spoiled by it lately.  ($8 for a glass of Chinon-region Cabernet Franc as compared to the $8 for a glass of Sycamore Lane elsewhere).

Happy hour goes until 7pm, but if you pre-register for this event, you will get happy hour until 8pm.

John Strongbow’s is owned by veterans and serves a variety of European dishes in addition to your typical pub bar snacks.  It is located off the King Street stop on the Blue Line.  If you do not want to walk from the metro station, there is a free Old Town shuttle that stops right nearby.  (The cross streets are Columbus and Washington).

Ed and I will be present, of course, and look forward to meeting all of you.

For any travel die-hards who want to attend from afar, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco is two blocks away.  There’s also a Hilton, Embassy Suites, and Wyndham by the metro station.  There nearest Hyatt is the Reagan Airport one, about a three-mile Uber drive away.

We look forward to seeing you!

  1. Awesome! Can’t wait to catch up! Any suggestions on parking?

      Yes! Either:

      1. Park in a metered spot (with a max of 2 hours parking). I have the app Pango downloaded, so when my two hours is up, I re-up it remotely. (Don’t do Pango first–you have a limit of two hours with Pango).

      2. Park on Columbus. Drive from King street to Duke. Anything past Duke is free and good for the whole night.

I’ve never done this, but if you want a parking garage, here you go:
