The complementary wine option at most Hyatts in the US is the Canvas brand wines.  I’ve written in the past about how they are actually good, and I usually get them when I stay in a Hyatt.  (Though I feel bad when I’m solo and don’t finish the bottle!)

Each year, they hold a competition for art students to design the labels.  And this year’s selection of winning labels are gorgeous.

Cabernet Sauvignon:   Gemma Gene, Columbia University, New York, NY

Merlot:                                    Micael Butial, The Art Institute of California, San Francisco, CA

 

Chardonnay:                          Nina Palumbo, American Academy of Art, Chicago, IL

 

Pinot Grigio:                          Jordan Scott, American Academy of Art, Chicago, IL

From their press release:

In addition to having their artwork displayed on the Canvas bottle, each winner receives a $5,000 scholarship from Hyatt to further support their studies. The scholarship prize is consistent with Hyatt’s THRIVE, global corporate social responsibility philosophy; that is based on Environmental Sustainability, Economic Development & Investment, Education & Personal Advancement, and Health & Wellness.

“This is our third year conducting the Canvas Student Artist Series Contest and by far the most rewarding,†said John O’Connell, Corporate Director of Food & Beverage, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts.  “As the number of entries and quality of submissions continue to grow, it is inspiring to see the students’ labor rewarded and our fine wines graced with their artwork. Canvas wines are available at all Hyatt, Hyatt Regency and Grand Hyatt hotels in the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean as well as online at Canvas Wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir are 2012 vintages, while the Merlot, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio are 2013 vintages.

My favorite of them are the Merlot and Chardonnay.  I got to taste them at the Grand Hyatt DC, where you can do a tasting flight in the bar there.
