Day of the Tentacle Remastered on Sale for $5.09 (AMAZING game)

Day of the Tentacle Remastered Edition

From Double Fine Productions and originally from Lucas Arts, it is ON SALE for $5.09 on Humble Bundle!  It’s a great chance to get the Day of the Tentacle Remastered Edition.

This game was the sequel to Maniac Mansion that surpassed the original (which was very good!) in terms of game play, humor, and plot.

This game was so great, I remember all the details surrounding it.  I got it on sale at a Nobody Beats the Wiz.  My siblings and I played it straight through on New Year’s Eve.

The game has so many great moments.  It involves time travel and three characters.  Each character is in a different time (past, present, future), and you switch between them at will.

But things you do in the past/present can affect the present/future!

It’s also a good game to play for the Fourth of July because the past plot involves our founding fathers.

And kumquat trees.

Since this game’s success revolves around its plot and script, it is the type of thing that can translate well into, well, the future, even though it was released over twenty years ago.

So we are now potentially in the future.

Or maybe this future is 200 years from now. day of the tentacle remastered
Or maybe this future is 200 years from now.

Here’s some more about the plot:

Dr. Fred’s mutated purple tentacle is about to take over the world, and only you can stop him!

Originally released by LucasArts in 1993 as a sequel to Ron Gilbert’s ground breaking Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle is a mind-bending, time travel, cartoon puzzle adventure game in which three unlikely friends work together to prevent an evil mutated purple tentacle from taking over the world!

Now, over twenty years later, Day of the Tentacle is back in a remastered edition that features all new hand-drawn, high resolution artwork, with remastered audio, music and sound effects (which the original 90s marketing blurb described as ‘zany!’).

Players are able to switch back and forth between classic and remastered modes, and mix and match audio, graphics and user interface to their heart’s desire. We’ve also included a concept art browser, and recorded a commentary track with the game’s original creators Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, Larry Ahern, Peter Chan, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian.

Day of the Tentacle was Tim Schafer’s first game as co-project lead, and a much beloved cult classic! This special edition has been lovingly restored and remade with the care and attention that can only come from involving the game’s original creators.

This is seriously one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorites.  I have so many fun memories attached to this game, and I bonded with my siblings over it.  Some of our inside jokes come from this game.  (A cold and a detached “ha. ha. ha.” for example).

But the emulated edition was missing something important–the voice work!  This was the best part.  But Double Fine promised a re-release that would bring that all back.

The interface is simple–it’s point and click–but you are going to have to be clever and a little weird to beat this game.

Humble Bundle also donates a percentage of the proceeds to charity.

  1. I’m so excited for this! Best game ever! I’ve tried to explain this game to people over the years but you can’t really “get it” without actually playing.
